The Critical Role of Sulfur for an Intact
Digestive Barrier and GI Motility
Pharmacy Webinar 58
with Kathleen Janel, ND
PW58: The Critical Role of Sulfur for an intact Digestive Barrier and GI Motility.
In this presentation, we will delve into the critical role of sulfur in maintaining healthy connective tissue and its importance in restoring gastrointestinal (GI) motility, particularly when utilized for GI repair.
Collagen fibers rely on disulfide bonds to form their characteristic triple-helix structure, essential for their strength and stability.
When collagen is processed into a supplement, it undergoes hydrolysis, a process that removes sulfur ions. To synthesize functional collagen from these hydrolyzed collagen peptides, the body requires sufficient sulfur. Sulfur not only stabilizes collagen but also plays a pivotal role in cellular collagen production.

Dr. Kathleen Janel, ND
Dr Kathleen Janel has been practicing medicine for over 25 years. She is a graduate of Bastyr University in Seattle Washington and holds an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of British Columbia.
After completing a residency in pediatrics and primary care, she proceeded to specialize in digestive medicine.
Over the past decades, Dr Janel has developed and refined a unique treatment approach for digestive disorders. She has used this therapy for patients around the country and globally, to help eliminate symptoms of abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, and the gas and bloating of fermentation disorders like IBS and SIBO.
In 2019 her work was published and released in the book entitled, “GI Janel, Permanent IBS/SIBO Resolution”. In it she guides the reader through her unique steps for successful digestive recovery.
